ACCOMMODATION & OUTREACH

ACCOMMODATION & OUTREACH MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION AT BUTLER Supported by staff, the residents hosted a wonderful Mother’s Day afternoon tea for their families. As you can see by the photo taken by one of our very talented staff members Renae, it was very special. We went all out to make it memorable for all. It is also great to have the families and friends visit and venture out with their loved ones, the location and closeness to shops and the train station is a bonus for us here. As our ten residents settle into their new homes at Butler, we have started celebrating some of the special events on most people’s calendars; our first being Mother’s Day. CLAUDIA TAYLOR, MANAGER – BUTLER ACCOMMODATION We are very proud of our beautiful accommodation facility at Butler and that our residents have settled in so well and love their units. It’s all so new, as are the staff, but the desire to provide quality support and the great sense of teamwork and willingness is really rewarding. Our talented cook ensures we have great meals and a variety of food, especially when catering for some of our themed events. SOUTHSIDE NEWS REPORT Our group always enjoys a picnic when the weather is fine and the recent picnic at the Rockingham foreshore was no exception. We had a wonderful time enjoying games, massage (hands and feet) and a delicious fish and chip lunch to round out the morning. A footy tipping competition is under way with 18 hopeful Members involved who are all vying for top spot by the end of the year. This year’s Volunteers Lunch was held once again at Royal Perth Golf Club. A beautiful 3-course meal was served (how did they do that lamb?) great service, picturesque location and the odd roar of a lion and lemur in the background. The Golf Club is right opposite Perth Zoo. Seven of us from Southside attended and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, thank you to Dawn and the team for organising this event. Rosemary had our artistic side going ‘potty’ recently. As well as her cooking ability, she is also a trained horticulturist. We painted designs on the pots and planted seedlings of our choice. What a fun activity! Let’s hope we can keep the plants alive. JOHN WALLACE MSWA MEMBER 26

BRAND, MARKETING & SALES WORLD MS DAY 2019 World MS Day 2019 on Thursday, 30 May was the annual global day to raise awareness about MS and the needs of people living with the condition. MSWA proudly gave a voice to Western Australians this year and highlighted the need for awareness and education for the broader community about the condition which affects over 25,000 Australians. Together with MS Australia and other state organisations, we put MS in the spotlight and spoke loud and clear about the unseen impact of MS. The day made international news, kicked off incredible events and got social media buzzing about #MyInvisibleMS. With your support we showed the world how engaged, professional, and creative the global MS community can be. This year achieved some key highlights including: / Global action for change / Community celebrations / Making headlines / Lighting up the world / Research and education / Famous shout-outs MSWA CEO Marcus Stafford has been advocating for Western Australians living with MS for the last 17 years and can attest to the advances in treatments available today, due to investment in neurological research and engaging with key stakeholders to change policies, practises and attitudes towards people living with MS. “World MS Day is a great way of bringing everyone together for an important cause. MSWA recognises the importance of cutting-edge research and over the past 11 years we’ve invested .9 million towards finding the cause, better treatments and a cure for MS,” said Mr Stafford. To acknowledge World MS Day, MSWA hosted its annual ‘Hip Hop Yoga’ event – a yoga class for music lovers hosted by the ‘Queen of Hip- Hop Yoga’, Kaye Waterhouse of Vital Beat Yoga, on the courtyard of RAC Arena. MSWA Member Nicolette Murphy is just one of the many Western Australians who benefit from MSWA’s support was proud to be one of the voices on the day. “I’m a single mum which can be hard and keeps me busy but thankfully, MSWA’s support has grown every year and I know they will continue to drive that awareness we need.” Nicolette said.
